"Walking in Pittsburgh" Parody by Tim Ruff

January 28, 2011
Posted By - Emma Venezie

---
Pittsburgh-based singer/songwriter and CMU graduate, Tim Ruff, has put his own spin on the classic "Walking in Memphis" with, what else, "Walking in Pittsburgh."

Here is a sampling of the lyrics:
"Put on my black and gold and I boarded the plane..
Touched down in the land of the Bucs and Pens in the middle of a Steelers game
Andrew Carnegie, won't you look down over me?
Yeah, I got a back row ticket, so I'm as blue as a boy can be.
Walking in Pittsburgh
Walking on a bridge made of solid steel..."

I'd say this is perfect timing with the Steelers heading to the Superbowl.

Living In A Pittsburgh Steelers Sanctuary

January 27, 2011
Posted By - Emma Venezie
Source Credits - Dan Gigler, Pittsburgh Post Gazette
---

Mr. George Danesky may just live within the most "Steerler-fied" home known to man, and he doesn't even reside in Pittsburgh. Danesky, a 62-year-old from South Fayette, now lives in Blue Ridge, Georgia and has devoted half of his home to the Steelers: "We live in a 5000 sq.ft. house. The basement is 2500 sq. ft Every inch of that 2500 sq. ft. is painted in official NFL Steeler gold and all trim is black. The entire basement is dedicated to, used for games, partying, and display of our thousands of Steeler items."

George Danesky
George Danesky Steelers
Danesky's Living Room
The average visitor considers the home a "museum" of collections that began when Danesky was just a child and acquired a Bobby Layne football card. Needless to say, he's come a long way. Interestingly enough, Danesky's "most prized possession" is now on display in the Great Hall at Heinz Field: a pair of tribute plaques to Art Rooney, Sr. and defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau along with a poem dedicated to Rooney entitled "The Heartbeat."

George Danesky Steelers
Danesky's Bar
For every game day, the Danesky's, of course, throw a party amongst their Steelers' shrine. And sitting in the midst of the memorabilia isn't quite enough: kielbasa from the Strip, pierogies from Pierogies Plus in McKees Rocks, (both shipped from Pittsburgh), Heinz condiments, I.C. Light - these elements are essential. There are also rituals: a prayer while holding a football signed by Art Rooney, Sr. When the Steelers score, a siren from an old Pittsburgh firehouse must be rung. I'll go out on a limb and say these things will be probably be happening come February 6.

Everyone must believe in something. Danesky believes in the Steelers. And who can blame him?

SEVERINO REYES' "WALANG SUGAT" (1939) and (1957): MOVIE ADAPTATION

Meanwhile, Julia's mother pressures her into marrying the wealthy Miguel instead. With no word from Tenyong as the battle prolongs, Julia gives in, but her wedding is interrupted by the fatally wounded Tenyong, who returns with a dying wish. (Internet Source)

talent network news presents Artist of the Week

Comedian Mark Eddie

With a guitar, a signature singing voice and an infectious spirit, comic Mark Eddie fires out musical observations, songs, guitar riffs and musical impressions of artists such as Bob Dylan, Eddie Vedder, Al Green and John Mayer to name just a few. From a musician‘s point-of-view, he explores the funny little things in the music we love... like the similarities between Heavy Metal and Polka music -- envisioning Neil Diamond as a third-grade teacher -- and slowing down Dave Matthews on a turntable. "It's either brilliant observations, or way too much time on my hands", says Eddie.

Mark Eddie performed in bar bands while attending college in Ohio. Soon after receiving his degree, he was touring coffeehouses and eventually sharing the stage with national acts like Jackson Browne, Melissa Etheridge and Toad the Wet Sprocket. Somewhere along the line Mark realized that his adventures as a professional musician could be the basis for a kick-ass comedy show. "One day I just went from rock musician to rock comedian", he says.

Mark has gone on to release three comedy CDs, and has earned five nominations for the coveted NACA Entertainer of the Year Award. "I've officially become the Susan Lucci of that award!", he jokes. Also in the works is a one-man play focusing on his personal struggle with "Type 1 Diabetes". Diagnosed at age 4, mark is an active diabetes advocate and states, "we've got to find a cure . . . I don't want to be the only guy whose VH-1 "Behind the Music" special ends in a tragic Snickers overdose!"

You can see Mark Eddie at a couple of places this weekend around Pittsburgh:

Thursday, January 27th - 7:00pm - 10:00pm - Saddle Ridge - WDVE Steelers Superbowl Pep Rally
(will be  aired on Friday morning on 102.5 WDVE)

Friday, January 28th - 8:00pm - Jeffries Landing

"Godfathers of Comedy" Comes To Showtime

January 25, 2010
Posted By - Emma Venezie
Source Credits - Godfathers of Comedy, talent network, inc.
---
Rocky LaPorte, the hilarious comedian talent network, inc. has worked with for years, is a part of Showtime's Godfathers of Comedy, premiering Saturday, January 29 at 9pm.

Director Rocco Urbisci (who directed and produced many of George Carlin's HBO comedy specials) and producer Neal Marshall (who has produced numerous Showtime stand-up comedy specials) are behind this special that binds together five Italian-American comedians.

Source: pdangelo.com
I did a laid-back interview with Rocky to find out more about the Godfathers of Comedy:

What is the Godfathers of Comedy all about?
About three years ago, Rocky did an Italian show at the Montreal Comedy Festival. After it was so well-received, Rocky thought, "why not do something here?"

Rocky LaPorte Godfathers of Comedy
Rocky LaPorte
Along with John Caponera, Paul D'Angelo, Frank Santorelli, and Willie Fratto, Rocky performed two sold out shows in one night, both to standing ovations, at the Arcada Theater in St. Charles, IL. This footage, along with interviews conducted in Hermosa Beach, CA at the Hermosa Beach Comedy & Magic Club, became the Godfathers of Comedy.

They pitched the footage to Showtime, but Rocky was under the impression that the network passed. It sat on the shelf for three years. This was until a friend of Rocky's insisted he try again. But why try again, Rocky thought, when the head of Showtime already passed on it? Come to find, the head of Showtime had never seen it. A young assistant had been the one who shelved it, and when the head of Showtime finally saw it, he loved it and wanted to air it.

How was The Godfathers of Comedy different from other gigs?
"The Godfathers of Comedy is about five goofy Italian guys and how they look at the world. But it's like The Sopranos; you don't have to be Italian to get it or like it, it's just funny."

Source: pdangelo.com
Was there any competition felt among the five guys?
"Not at all. We're all friends; we're all happy to do it together. We're all making fun of the guy onstage while we're backstage."

Do you have a set-plan for what jokes/stories you're going to tell, or do you feel out the audience before you know exactly what you're going to deliver?
"I think most guys have a planned-out set they like to do and throw some new stuff in the middle somewhere between bits that you know will work. And sometimes if something happens before you go up in the room you can address it or make fun of it." And when the topic of hecklers came up, Rocky said, "mace works best."

Akin to other comedy films, Godfathers of Comedy deserves massive success. As Rocky says, "We're like the Blue Collar guys, but more smartful." So, don't miss it. Rocky alone will be worth it!

At just 12 years old, news of making it onto Broadway was "amazing," as Logan remembers, and he fought hard for it. Logan beat out dozens of prospective Pugsleys, aided by his preparatory work with the CLO Academy pre-professional program that included featured roles in the company's "Oliver!" and "The Fully Monty" as well as "Will Rogers Follies" at the West Virginia Public Theatre.

Logan has now transitioned from Pittsburgh to New York, living with his mother, Shannon Rowland, in an apartment that is walking distance from the theater while his father, James has stayed behind with brother Connor (17) and sisters Sydney (10) and Teagan (6).

Logan, who "feels right at home navigating a century-old Broadway theater," says he isn't ready to go back to normal life. Here's to a long road of his not having to.

RARE PRE-WAR TAGALOG MOVIE FLYERS # 14: "PIGHATI" (1939)

"Pighati" (1939)
S.F. Del Monte Pictures
Release Date: October 26, 1939/ Grand Theater
Director Salvador Tinsay
Story Susana de Guzman
Cast Alma Bella, Angelita Rey, Lina Victoria, Domingo Principe

"Movie flyers have been used by theater owners as promotional ads to drum up business for movies. They would print them up from materials provided by the studio, adding information on local screening times and locations. Although they were cheaply produced, many of the flyers were quite nicely designed and are now considered highly collectibles. In many cases the original films have been lost, making the surviving flyers the only visual record of numerous movies."

The official 31st Razzie Award Nominations have been announced. Leading the way with nine nominations each are The Last Airbender and Twilight Saga: Eclipse, but Sex and the City 2 isn't far behind with seven nominations. This isn't what was predicted per my last Razzie post, which guessed that Burlesque was going to take away most of the votes (Burlesque actually received only one vote for Cher as Worst Supporting Actress).
